Omnicom Group Partners with AOL
Type: News
Omnicom Group and AOL have formed a partnership to infuse digital technology into the beginning of the creative process and enrich creative executions through a more cohesive use of technology in campaigns.
AOL will appoint an Omnicom Creative Ambassador, dedicated to bringing Omnicom creative agencies closer to AOL, as Omnicom works to build a stronger relationship between these agencies and media companies such as AOL.
"Wherever there is an opportunity to enhance campaigns through products and technologies, the Creative Ambassador will be brought into the process and play an important role in the creation of engaging brand programs," Omnicom Digital CEO Jonathan Nelson said.
AOL will also take part in a pilot of Rosetta, a new technology employed by Omnicom to define disparate audience segments, create a universal language, and eliminate the disconnect between multiple industry definitions and currencies in the targeting space.
Through Rosetta, the aim is to create a framework for connecting these disparate targeting languages. In effect, Rosetta will translate syndicated target methodologies, premium network targets, and other digital audience buys. This will appear seamless to the user, with the complexities handled behind the scenes. By unifying these languages, Rosetta will allow learnings to be carried forward, audience definitions based on network context to be continually sharpened, and processes made more efficient.
"Both elements of this partnership will help build stronger relationships at all levels where content and advertising can work together creating superior engagement across brands," said Jeff Levick, president of global advertising and strategy, AOL.
AOL is a global web services company with a suite of brands and offerings and a substantial worldwide audience. AOL's business spans online content, products and services that the company offers to consumers, publishers and advertisers. AOL is focused on attracting and engaging consumers and providing valuable online advertising services on both AOL's owned and operated properties and third- party websites. In addition, AOL operates one of the largest Internet subscription access services in the United States, which serves as a valuable distribution channel for AOL's consumer offerings.
Omnicom Group is a global marketing and corporate communications company. Omnicom's branded networks and numerous specialty firms provide advertising, strategic media planning and buying, digital and interactive marketing, direct and promotional marketing, public relations, and other specialty communications services to over 5,000 clients in more than 100 countries.

Fed: WA teacher's union slams Gillard's comments on NAPLAN
PERTH, April 30 AAP - West Australian teachers say Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard
has misled people by saying other unions should follow its lead and ignore calls to boycott
national literacy and numeracy tests.
The State School Teachers Union of WA (SSTUWA) says it has been forced to comply with
the state's industrial relations commission but its lawyers were seeking "any and every
legal option" to challenge the ruling.
Ms Gillard earlier welcomed the decision of the WA union to support the NAPLAN tests.
She called on other state unions to also break ranks with the national union, which
voted to boycott the program earlier this month.
"I welcome that decision by the Western Australian teachers' union - it's a responsible
decision, it's the right decision, and is leading the way for the rest of the nation,"
she told reporters in Sydney on Friday.
"I would be calling upon teacher unions around the country to follow the lead of Western
Australia."
But the WA union's general secretary David Kelly called Ms Gillard's comments false
and misleading.
"For Ms Gillard to suggest that education unions across Australia should follow the
SSTUWA's lead and simply give in is blatantly false and misleading," he said in a statement.
The controversial NAPLAN tests, which will be held from May 11 to 13, have divided
the ranks of teachers, who have largely decided to back the national boycott.

Vic: Bushfire devastation rivals combat scenes: major general
MELBOURNE, Feb 13 AAP - Victoria's bushfire devastation ranks alongside some of the
worst combat scenes witnessed by a top Australian military official.
Major General John Cantwell, the interim head of the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction
and Recovery Authority, has toured the hardest hit towns of Kinglake and Marysville with
Premier John Brumby.
"I am a soldier and I have been in some pretty unpleasant situations, and I have seen
some pretty awful things in the last 24 hours that ranks alongside some of the worst I
have seen in combat," he said.
"It really brings home the extent of the damage and the work that needs to be done."
Major General Cantwell, who heads the authority until Victoria Police Chief Commissioner
Christine Nixon takes charge next month, said its role would be to help communities rebuild.
Of immediate concern were issues including sanitation, meal preparation, laundry, water
and showers, he said.
Major General Cantwell is a military veteran of more than 30 years and was posted with
coalition forces during Operation Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait between
1990 and 1991.

Daltonism
Dalton was not permitted to attend Cambridge or Oxford because those schools were open only to members of the Church of England, and Dalton was born a Quaker. So determined was he to make something of himself that, although primarily self-taught (he had only an elementary-school education), he pursued his interests with complete dedication, eventually becoming president of the Philosophical Society, an honorary office he held until his death.
Dalton's study of gases led to the development of partial pressure, known as Dalton's law. His meteorological surveys laid the groundwork for his atomic theory, for which he was elected to the Royal Society and awarded a medal.
Dalton and his brother were color blind. For this personal reason he devoted research time to this visual defect and was the first to describe the condition in a paper titled Extraordinary Facts Relating to the Vision of Colours (1794). Sir David Brewster (1781–1868), the inventor of the kaleidoscope, later introduced the term color blindness to denote defective color vision.
With a vision for the future, John Dalton willed his eyes to science to further the study of color blindness. Daltonism has become a synonym for color blindness.
