Vic: Immunisation service axed. = 2

A government spokesman says the buses were part of an unsuccessful pilot program to
identify children not being immunised and encourage their parents to immmunise them.

The spokesman says the pilot scheme, established by the Human Services Department under
the KENNETT government, concluded last year under the BRACKS regime.

He says the money has been put into another scheme using outreach workers to go through
local government files to identify children not being immunised and then approach their
parents direct.

The spokesman says this has been found to be a more efficient service, adding that
the buses are still used for special or promotional occasions.
